This little girl's wish to record a podcast came true, thanks to a Chicago radio station

Not many five-year-olds might think to record a podcast as their big "wish," but Azka Sharief is one unique little girl.

Not many five-year-olds might think to record a podcast as their big "wish," but Azka Sharief is one unique little girl.

Azka, currently in kindergarten at a school in Des Plaines, Illinois, has a rare metabolic condition that requires receiving care every few months at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

Thanks to her school nurse and Make-A-Wish Illinois, local NPR station WBEZ-FM helped her make the dream come to life. Recording the podcast in just one take, Azka's five-minute story "The Stealer of the Diamonds" was also written by her, with a little help from her big sister, Afifa, age 11.

WBEZ's Carrie Shepherd told NPR: "To see someone so young have such a keen ear for radio and sense of storytelling was rewarding. To see someone so young with such a full, fun personality was even better."

Recorded just over a week ago, the story has already received more than 10,000 plays on SoundCloud. Be sure to give it a listen; the second part of Azka’s wish is to get feedback from listeners through her email, AzkasWish@gmail.com.
